Our Partners

The success of our project is completely dependent on the partnerships we form. Our existing partnerships are critical to our mission and our aim is to expand them to involve the wider scientific, educational, and conservation communities, as well as the general public in particular, in both contributing as well as making use of the information we compile in our websites.

North Carolina Department of Parks and Recreation (NC DPR)

The NCBP began as a public/private collaboration between the website authors and the NC Division of Parks and Recreation. The DPR provides the server and the expertise needed to create and maintain the websites. The NCBP, in turn, provides the content, vets all new information, and otherwise ensures the accuracy and scientific validity of the information presented on the websites.

Southern Conservation Partners (SCP)

In 2017, we also formed an MOA with the Southern Conservation Partners. This arrangement allowed the NCBP to remain a project run primarily by the voluntary efforts of its authors but enabled us to seek grants under SCP’s 501(c)(3) cover to fund activities and projects that we would otherwise have to pay for out of our own pockets. The NC Biodiversity Project is now an independent tax-exempt public charity under Internal Revenue Code Section 501(c)(3), but SCP continues to be an important partner.

North Carolina Natural Heritage Program (NHP)

In 2019, the NCBP formalized a partnership with the NC Natural Heritage Program to share information for the purposes of conserving our native species and ecosystems.

Other Organizations and Sponsors

We also have a number of informal partnerships with various organizations, each of which have played an important role in supporting the mission of the NCBP.
